Dutch Oven Sausage Gravy Biscuit Bake with Cheddar Drop Biscuits
Brown breakfast sausage in a 12-inch Dutch oven over a campfire or stove, stir in flour and milk, and simmer 5 minutes into a peppery gravy. Drop cheddar biscuit dough on top, put the lid on, and bake with coals above and below for 18 to 22 minutes. Rest it 5 minutes and serve; the whole thing takes about 55 minutes.
Biscuits and gravy is the breakfast people ask for twice. This version does it all in one pot. The sausage gravy bubbles underneath while cheddar drop biscuits bake on top, so the bottoms soak up gravy and the tops turn golden and crisp.
There is no rolling and no cutting. Mix the dry ingredients and butter at home, and at camp you only add milk. It feeds six hungry people and needs one pot, one whisk and a handful of coals.
