Campfire Moroccan Mint Tea with Gunpowder Green Tea and Fresh Spearmint
Rinse 1 tablespoon of gunpowder green tea with a splash of boiling water, then add a big bunch of spearmint and 3 tablespoons of sugar to a small pot. Pour in 4 cups of boiling water, steep over a low stove flame or grate of coals for 4 minutes, and pour the tea from a glass back into the pot a few times to mix it. Total time is about 17 minutes and it serves 4.
Moroccan mint tea is a ritual as much as a drink. It is strong green tea, a lot of fresh mint and enough sugar to make it taste almost like candy. It is poured from up high so it foams and mixes. You only need three ingredients, but the rinse and the high pour make it taste far better than a tea bag with mint dropped in.
It works well at a campsite. It needs one small pot and one flame, and it makes a good slow-down moment at the end of a trail day. Pass it around in small glasses or mugs and refill a few times. Each pour tastes a little different as the mint keeps steeping.
