Campfire Cinnamon Rolls Baked in Orange Cups for Kids

Jump to recipe
Quick answer

Hollow out orange halves, tuck a refrigerated cinnamon roll into each, wrap in greased foil and bake on medium-low coals for 20 to 25 minutes, turning once. Open one to check that the center is set with no raw dough, rest 5 minutes, then top with orange-zest icing. Plan on about 40 minutes start to finish.

As much as we try, we're not food photographers. This is an illustrative image for context. We don't have real photos for every recipe. Cooked this one? Send us your photo and we'll credit you.

Kids get to scoop out the oranges, build their own cups and unwrap a hot roll that smells like cinnamon and citrus. The peel acts as a little baking cup. It keeps the dough from scorching on the coals and gives the roll a light orange flavor.

This is a low-coal recipe, not a flames recipe. The foil packets sit on a grate or beside the coals so the bottoms brown without burning. Grown-ups handle the hot packets. Kids handle the spoons, sprinkles and icing.
