Spiced Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix, Just Add Hot Water
Mix powdered milk, cocoa, sugar, cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne in a zip bag at home. At camp, bring 6 cups of water to a boil on a one-burner stove or fire grate, then stir about 1/3 cup of mix into each 8-oz mug of hot water. Takes about 15 minutes, and it needs no cooler.
This is a hot chocolate you mix at home and finish with hot water at camp. Powdered milk and cocoa carry well and keep for weeks. Cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne give it a slow warmth that suits a cold morning.
One zip bag makes six mugs. The chocolate chips melt into the hot water and make each cup taste richer than store-bought packets. It works for backpacking, car camping or a quick stop at a cold trailhead.
