Dutch Oven French Onion Cheeseburger Sliders with Gruyère and Beef Jus
Caramelize sliced onions in a Dutch oven over medium campfire coals for 20 minutes, then brown ground beef in a skillet to 160°F and drain it. Pile the beef, onions and Gruyère on slider rolls in the Dutch oven, then bake with coals above and below for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve with hot beef broth for dipping. Total time is about 70 minutes and it feeds 8.
These are cheeseburger sliders with French onion soup flavor. Sweet, deep-brown onions, nutty melted Gruyère and a buttery, mustard-brushed bun top. A cup of hot beef jus on the side is for dunking.
They bake together in one Dutch oven, so everyone gets a hot slider at the same time. That makes them good for a big site or a hungry crew after a long day. Most of the work is stirring onions while you sip something cold.
